Long Speech on Self-Confidence
Today, I want to talk about a topic that is often underestimated, yet incredibly powerful – self-confidence. Self-confidence is the glue that holds together our dreams, our aspirations, and our achievements. It helps us succeed and shields us from fear and doubt.
Self-confidence is not something we are born with; it is something we develop and nurture over time. It requires self-awareness, belief in one’s abilities, and a positive mindset. When we have self-confidence, we are more likely to take risks, embrace challenges, and step outside our comfort zones.
Building self-confidence starts with recognizing our strengths and accepting our weaknesses. We are all unique individuals with our own set of skills and talents. By celebrating our achievements, no matter how small, and acknowledging the skills we excel in, we can lay a solid foundation for our self-confidence to flourish.
However, self-confidence is not just about recognizing our strengths; it is also about embracing our imperfections. It is about accepting who we are, flaws and all, and realizing that no one is perfect. When we let go of the need for perfection and focus on our unique qualities, we become more confident in our abilities.
Another key aspect of self-confidence is our mindset and inner dialogue. We must counter the negative self-talk that often worry our minds with positive affirmations. Instead of saying, “I can’t do it,” we should say, “I will give it my best shot.” By replacing self-doubt with belief in ourselves, we create a positive ground for our self-confidence to grow.
Surrounding ourselves with positive influences and supportive people is also crucial for building self-confidence. It is important to have a network of individuals who believe in us, encourage us, and push us to be the best version of ourselves. Their unchanging support can provide the boost we need when we face challenges or setbacks.
Lastly, self-confidence is not a destination; it is a lifelong journey. It requires constant effort and self-reflection. We must continuously challenge ourselves, set ambitious goals, and push beyond our limits. By stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing new experiences, we gain a deeper understanding of our true potential and increase our self-confidence .
In conclusion, self-confidence is the key that unlocks endless possibilities and move us towards success. By recognizing our strengths, embracing our imperfections, adopting a positive mindset, and surrounding ourselves with positive influences, we can cultivate our self-confidence. So, let us all embark on this journey of self-belief and empower ourselves to reach new heights. Thank you.

Without self-confidence, even the smallest tasks seem daunting. Remember, your belief in yourself can move mountains!
1-minute Speech on Self Confidence
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Today, I would like to speak to you about an essential aspect of our personality: Self Confidence. It is the belief in oneself to accomplish any task.
Self-confidence is not a trait that we are born with. It is something we develop as we grow and nurture it. It starts with understanding yourself, recognizing your potential, and identifying your skills. We are all unique in our way, equipped with different talents and abilities. To become confident, you need to acknowledge your strengths and embrace your weaknesses.
A self-confident person is admired by others and inspires confidence in others. They face their fears head-on and tend to be risk takers. Self-confidence can enrich our lives as it opens up more possibilities. With confidence, we can achieve our goals, conquer our fears, and reach heights we may have never imagined.
However, remember that confidence does not equate arrogance. Confidence is about being sure of your abilities, whereas arrogance is a false belief in your superiority over others. As we build our self-confidence, let us remain humble and remember that everyone has something unique to offer.

2-minute Speech on Self Confidence
Today, I would like to speak about something integral to our lives, something that can be the deciding factor of our success – Self Confidence. What is self-confidence? It is the belief in oneself and one’s abilities. It is the courage to take risks, to face challenges, and to not be afraid of failure.
Each one of us is different, unique in our own ways, with distinct talents and abilities. The first step towards self-confidence is to acknowledge and embrace these differences, not shy away from them. We must believe in our capabilities, trust our instincts, and most importantly, value ourselves. Comparing ourselves to others is a common pitfall. Instead, let’s start comparing ourselves to our previous selves, focusing on our growth and development.
Self-confidence comes with self-awareness. We should identify our strengths and weaknesses, and work towards improving them. A weakness is not a flaw, but an opportunity for development. Do not see it as a deficiency, but as a sign of self-improvement. It’s important to set realistic and achievable goals for ourselves and strive to reach them.
However, self-confidence does not mean being overconfident or arrogant. It means having a positive and realistic view of ourselves and our abilities. Overconfidence can lead us to underestimate the effort required to achieve our goals, while self-confidence motivates us to work hard towards them.
Remember, failures and criticisms are stepping stones to success. They help us to learn, to grow, and to improve. If we fail, we should not let it lower our self-confidence. Instead, we should learn from it and persist. Criticisms should not dishearten us; instead, they should be viewed as constructive feedback and a chance to improve ourselves. After all, failure is not the opposite of success; it’s a part of success.
Building self-confidence is a gradual process. It involves changing how we perceive ourselves and how we react to situations. Let’s cultivate a positive mindset, accept compliments graciously, keep a check on our thoughts, and affirm ourselves. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and good sleep also contribute greatly to building and maintaining self-confidence.
Self-confidence can be our biggest strength. It gives us the courage to take risks, the strength to face challenges, and the determination to never give up. It’s the key to achieving our dreams and goals.
Let’s remember, we are all works in progress. Everyone has their own pace of growing and learning. The journey to self-confidence will be filled with ups and downs, but every step, no matter how small, is progress.
In conclusion, self-confidence is not just about believing in our abilities; it is about believing in ourselves. It’s about understanding and accepting ourselves, acknowledging our strengths and weaknesses, and seeing them not as barriers, but as opportunities for growth. It’s about standing tall, not in comparison to others, but to our previous selves. Let’s celebrate every achievement, no matter how small, and keep striving to become the best versions of ourselves.

2-Minute Self-Confidence Speech
‘A very warm good morning to everyone present here. I would like to thank my teacher (s) for giving me this opportunity to express my speech on self-confidence. It took me 2 days to prepare this speech, not because of my grammar, but self-confidence. There is a magic in self-confidence. It can make things happen. What you once thought was impossible can be achieved through self-confidence.’
‘When you believe in yourself, you develop a positive attitude and can see the bar raising. We all want to succeed in life and success comes with hard work. Not everybody is born with extraordinary skills and talent, but if you believe in yourself, you can achieve your desired goals in real time. There is a saying that ‘ hard work beats talent’ if there is self-confidence in the person.
Self-confidence is not always about winning or succeeding in life. Sometimes, it allows us to find our true self. When you are confident, you feel highly motivated, enhance communication skills and performance, increase resilience, assertiveness, better decision making, etc.’
Although there are hundreds of other methods of building confidence, they are all good for nothing if it doesn’t from the inside. Remember what Steve Jobs said? ‘Your time is limited, don’t waste it living someone else’s life.’
Achieving self-confidence is quite demanding, as it requires deliberate practice every single day. Start by setting realistic and short-term goals, like scoring good marks in the next semester or performing better in the next football tournament. Celebrate your achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Remember that failure is not a reflection of your worth; it is an opportunity to learn and grow.
Success only comes to those who are willing to work hard, persevere in the face of challenges, and consistently strive to improve themselves and their circumstances. When your emotions will get in the way of your path to success, your self-confidence will be your biggest weapon.
If you are still not fired up, listen to this, ‘success will hug you in private, but failure will slap you in public.’
Thank you.’

It serves as a guiding force, influencing how we approach challenges, interact with others, and pursue our goals in life.
Firstly, self-confidence is essential for personal development and growth. It provides the motivation and resilience needed to push beyond comfort zones and embrace new experiences. Whether it’s learning a new skill, pursuing a career opportunity, or forming meaningful relationships, self-confidence empowers individuals to take risks and seize opportunities for self-improvement.
Secondly, self-confidence plays a crucial role in professional success. In the workplace, individuals with high levels of self-confidence are more likely to assert themselves, voice their ideas, and take on leadership roles. They exude a sense of competence and credibility, earning the respect and trust of colleagues and superiors alike. Moreover, self-confident individuals are better equipped to handle setbacks and navigate challenges, fostering a resilient and adaptable mindset in dynamic work environments.
Furthermore, self-confidence is closely linked to mental and emotional well-being. People who possess a healthy sense of self-confidence tend to experience lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. They have a positive self-image and are better equipped to cope with life’s adversities. Conversely, low self-confidence can lead to self-doubt, negative self-talk, and a reluctance to pursue opportunities, hindering personal fulfillment and satisfaction.
Additionally, self-confidence plays a vital role in social interactions and relationships. Individuals who are self-assured tend to be more outgoing, assertive, and socially adept. They communicate effectively, assert their needs and boundaries, and cultivate meaningful connections with others. In romantic relationships, self-confidence contributes to trust, communication, and mutual respect, fostering healthy and fulfilling partnerships.
Moreover, self-confidence is a trait that can be cultivated and strengthened over time through self-awareness, positive thinking, and consistent effort. By acknowledging and celebrating achievements, setting realistic goals, and facing challenges head-on, individuals can boost their self-confidence and unleash their full potential.
In conclusion, self-confidence is a multifaceted concept that influences various aspects of our lives, including personal development, professional success, mental well-being, and social relationships. It empowers individuals to overcome obstacles, pursue their aspirations, and lead fulfilling lives. By nurturing self-confidence and believing in oneself, individuals can unlock their true potential and thrive in all areas of life.

5 Short Speeches about Self Confidence
Some people seem to radiate confidence. They walk into a room, and all eyes turn to them. They speak, and everyone listens. This isn’t magic or luck – it’s self-confidence. And here’s the good news: You can develop it too.
Self-confidence works like a muscle. The more you work on it, the stronger it gets. Whether you’re facing a job interview, giving a presentation, or just trying to feel more comfortable in your own skin, these speeches will give you the boost you need. Let’s explore how to transform your life.
Short Speeches about Self Confidence
These speeches aim to inspire, motivate, and help you build unshakeable self-confidence.
Speech 1: The Power of Self-Belief
Ladies and gentlemen, friends and colleagues,
Today, I want to talk about something that can change your life – self-belief. It’s the foundation of confidence, the spark that ignites success, and the force that pushes you to chase your dreams.
Consider a time when you doubted yourself. Maybe you were about to give a presentation, or ask someone out on a date. That voice in your head whispered, “You can’t do this.” But here’s the truth – that voice is a liar.
You are capable of amazing things. You have talents and skills that are uniquely yours. The issue isn’t your abilities – it’s your belief in them. When you start to believe in yourself, doors open. Opportunities appear. The impossible becomes possible.
So how do we build this self-belief? It starts with recognizing your worth. You are valuable, not because of what you do, but because of who you are. Your experiences, your thoughts, your dreams – they all matter.
Next, celebrate your victories, no matter how small. Did you make it to the gym today? That’s a win. Did you speak up in a meeting? Another win. Each victory builds your confidence muscle.
Lastly, spend time with people who believe in you. Their faith in you will reinforce your faith in yourself. And when that inner voice tries to doubt you, keep this in mind: You are stronger than you think, braver than you believe, and more capable than you know.
Believe in yourself, and watch as the world starts believing in you too. Thank you.
— END OF SPEECH —
Commentary: This speech focuses on the importance of self-belief as the foundation of confidence. It encourages listeners to recognize their worth, celebrate small victories, and surround themselves with supportive people. This speech would be suitable for motivational seminars, personal development workshops, or as an opening address for team-building events.
Speech 2: Embracing Your Unique Self
Hello everyone,
Let’s talk about something we all struggle with at times – accepting ourselves. Many messages tell us to change, to be different, to fit in – I’m here to tell you something radical: You are enough, just as you are.
We often think confidence comes from being perfect. But true confidence? It comes from embracing your imperfections. It’s about looking in the mirror and saying, “I’m not perfect, and that’s okay.”
Your quirks, your flaws, the things that make you different – they’re not weaknesses. They’re what make you, you. And that’s your superpower.
Consider this. Steve Jobs was fired from his own company. Oprah was told she wasn’t fit for television. J.K. Rowling was rejected by multiple publishers. What if they had given up? What if they had tried to be someone else?
The world doesn’t need another copy. It needs you – authentic, genuine, wonderfully imperfect you. Your unique perspective, your individual talents, your personal experiences – they all contribute to making this world a richer, more diverse place.
So stop trying to fit in. Stop trying to be like everyone else. Instead, focus on being the best version of yourself. Embrace your uniqueness. Let your quirks shine. Be proudly, unapologetically you.
Keep in mind, there’s no one else in this world quite like you. And that’s not just okay – it’s amazing. Thank you.
Commentary: This speech emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and embracing one’s uniqueness as a key to confidence. It uses examples of famous figures who succeeded despite initial setbacks. This speech would be particularly effective for youth groups, diversity and inclusion events, or any setting where individuality and self-expression are valued.
Speech 3: Overcoming Fear and Building Confidence
Good evening, everyone.
Fear. It’s a small word, but it can have a big impact on our lives. Fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of not being good enough – these fears can hold us back, keep us small, and prevent us from reaching our full potential.
But here’s the thing about fear – it’s not real. It’s a story we tell ourselves. A story about what might happen, what could go wrong. And the problem with this story? It’s almost always worse than reality.
So how do we overcome these fears and build confidence? We face them head-on. We take action despite feeling afraid. Because here’s a secret – confidence isn’t the absence of fear. It’s the ability to act in spite of it.
Start small. Afraid of public speaking? Start by speaking up more in meetings. Scared of rejection? Ask someone out for coffee. Worried about failure? Try something new, knowing it’s okay if you don’t get it right the first time.
Each time you face a fear, you prove to yourself that you’re capable. You show yourself that you can handle whatever comes your way. And bit by bit, your confidence grows.
Every confident person you admire was once afraid too. They didn’t start out brave – they became brave by doing brave things. And you can do the same.
So the next time fear tries to hold you back, recognize it for what it is – just a feeling. Acknowledge it, thank it for trying to protect you, and then do it anyway. Because on the other side of fear? That’s where the magic happens.
You are stronger than your fears. You are braver than you believe. And you are absolutely capable of amazing things. So go out there and prove it to yourself. Thank you.
Commentary: This speech addresses the common issue of fear holding people back from achieving their goals. It reframes fear as a feeling to be acknowledged and overcome, rather than an insurmountable obstacle. This speech would be well-suited for career development seminars, entrepreneurship events, or any situation where individuals are being encouraged to step out of their comfort zones.
Speech 4: The Journey to Self-Confidence
Dear friends,
Today, let’s talk about a journey. Not a journey to some far-off land, but an inner journey – the journey to self-confidence.
Like any journey, the path to self-confidence isn’t always smooth. There are ups and downs, twists and turns. Sometimes, you might feel like you’re making great progress. Other times, you might feel like you’re right back where you started.
But here’s the beautiful thing about this journey – every step counts. Every time you push yourself out of your comfort zone, every time you stand up for yourself, every time you try something new – you’re moving forward.
Self-confidence isn’t a destination you reach and then you’re done. It’s a continuous process of growth and self-discovery. It’s about learning to trust yourself, to believe in your abilities, and to value your worth.
So how do we move along this journey? First, be kind to yourself. Treat yourself with the same compassion you’d show a good friend. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small. Learn from your mistakes, but don’t dwell on them.
Second, set realistic goals. Break big challenges into smaller, manageable steps. Each time you achieve a goal, your confidence will grow.
Third, practice positive self-talk. The way you speak to yourself matters. Replace “I can’t” with “I’ll try,” “I’m not good enough” with “I’m learning and improving.”
Fourth, take care of yourself. Confidence is hard to maintain when you’re run down. Eat well, exercise, get enough sleep. A healthy body supports a confident mind.
Lastly, keep in mind that you’re not alone on this journey. We all struggle with confidence at times. Don’t be afraid to reach out for support when you need it.
Your journey to self-confidence is uniquely yours. There will be challenges, yes, but also incredible moments of growth and achievement. Trust the process, believe in yourself, and keep moving forward. You’ve got this. Thank you.
Commentary: This speech frames the development of self-confidence as a journey, emphasizing that it’s an ongoing process rather than a fixed destination. It provides practical tips for building confidence over time. This speech would be appropriate for personal development seminars, life coaching sessions, or as part of a series on emotional well-being and self-improvement.
Speech 5: Confidence Through Action
Today, I want to share a powerful truth with you: Confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s something you build through action.
Too often, we think we need to feel confident before we can act. We wait for that magical moment when we’ll suddenly feel ready. But here’s the secret – action comes first, then confidence follows.
Consider learning to ride a bike. You didn’t become confident by thinking about it or reading about it. You became confident by doing it. By falling, getting back up, and trying again. Each attempt built your confidence, bit by bit.
The same principle applies to every area of life. Want to be more confident in social situations? Start conversations. Want to be more confident at work? Take on new responsibilities. Want to be more confident in your abilities? Learn new skills.
Every time you take action, you’re sending a powerful message to yourself. You’re saying, “I can do this.” And the more you prove that to yourself, the more your confidence grows.
Now, this doesn’t mean you won’t feel afraid or uncertain. You will. But confident people aren’t people who never feel fear. They’re people who feel the fear and do it anyway.
So here’s my challenge to you: Do one thing every day that scares you, just a little. It could be speaking up in a meeting, trying a new hobby, or striking up a conversation with a stranger. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it pushes you out of your comfort zone.
Keep in mind, confidence is like a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. And the wonderful thing? There’s no limit to how strong it can become.
You have everything you need to be confident right now. Not tomorrow, not when you’ve achieved a certain goal, but right now. So take that first step. Take action. Your confident self is waiting on the other side. Thank you.
Commentary: This speech focuses on the idea that confidence is built through action rather than something innate. It encourages listeners to push themselves out of their comfort zones regularly. This speech would be effective for professional development workshops, motivational events, or any setting where individuals are being encouraged to take initiative and embrace challenges.
Finishing Up
Self-confidence is a skill that anyone can develop. It’s not about being perfect or fearless. It’s about believing in yourself, embracing your uniqueness, facing your fears, persevering through challenges, and taking action despite uncertainty.
Building self-confidence is a journey, not a destination. There will be ups and downs, but each experience is an opportunity for growth. Be patient with yourself, celebrate your progress, and keep pushing forward.
You have incredible potential within you. With self-confidence, you can unlock that potential and achieve things you never thought possible. So believe in yourself, take action, and watch as your confidence – and your life – transform.
Speech on Self Confidence and Motivation for Personal Growth
- Self Confidence
- February 26, 2024
These are the words of Muhammad Ali , one of the greatest boxers of all time. He has said this on several occasions – in his speeches, before his fights and in his interview with Oprah. When asked for his inspiration, he mentioned that he had heard boxer Gorgeous George on TV repeat to himself, ‘I am beautiful’ and ‘I’m the greatest’, and that motivated Ali to have belief in himself. This story is the perfect example of what self-confidence can help you achieve.
Meaning Of Self-Confidence
Self-confidence is the ability to truly believe in yourself. It comes from an inherent trust in oneself; it is essential to know your strengths and weaknesses to build trust in yourself. Being self-confident means having a positive mindset, something that we focus on in our senior leadership program . It gives you the courage to face challenges and approach life with resilience.
Self-confidence is like having a superhero cape tucked away. When you put it on, you’re ready to face the challenges of your story with a smile and a ‘can-do attitude’. It’s like when Maya Angelou said, “You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise.”
Nevertheless, there are times when things don’t work out how you expect them to and don’t have anyone to motivate you – we’ve all been there. For example, a lot of us lack self-confidence in English and feel frightened. These are the moments when you realise the power of words – be it a short quotation or a short speech on self-confidence . But how do these speeches work? What mantra do they provide to our brain that makes us feel motivated after we listen to them? Let’s find out and understand the role of motivational speeches in life and how they can inspire you when you want to .
Impact Of Motivational Speeches On Self-Confidence
Motivational speeches can touch our emotions and thoughts, making us want to be better. They go deep into our minds and can change how we see things. Understanding why is self-confidence essential and how confidence can be nurtured is crucial in comprehending the impact of motivational speeches.
Here’s a detailed analysis of how self-confidence is developed and enhanced through motivational speeches:
1. Inspirational Beacons
Motivational speakers often share personal stories of triumph over adversity, instilling a sense of hope and resilience in their audience. These stories serve as beacons of inspiration, reminding us that challenges are not roadblocks but growth opportunities.
Believing in yourself and learning to surround yourself with positive influences contribute significantly to the transformative power of motivational speeches.
One notable example of a speech on self-confidence in the modern world is Oprah’s acceptance speech at the 2018 Golden Globe Awards. She addressed the #MeToo movement and the Time’s Up campaign, which aimed to combat sexual harassment and inequality in the workplace. Her speech surprised social media, inspiring millions of women to speak out and summoning hundreds to claim it was her “Presidential Acceptance” speech.
2. Positive Affirmations
Motivational speeches are laden with positive affirmations and encouraging words. The repetition of empowering phrases helps rewire our thought patterns, replacing self-doubt with affirmations that bolster our self-esteem. As we internalize these positive messages, our confidence blossoms, and it is something we gradually embrace as an integral part of self-confidence.
Another speech on self-confidence is the commencement address at the 2014 MIU graduation ceremony given by Jim Carrey which provided positive affirmations to people. A memorable part of his speech involved the story of his father, who initially aspired to be a comedian but chose a more stable job. However, when his father lost that job, it taught Carrey that you can fail at what you don’t love, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love. His words resonated with many, serving as a source of encouragement for an individual to follow their dreams and believe in one’s abilities.
3. Growth Mindset
Motivational speeches encourage the adoption of a growth mindset – the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, perseverance and smart work. This mindset shift is instrumental in building self-confidence, as it promotes a willingness in ourselves to embrace challenges and learn from failures, fostering the courage to take risks.
The best speech on self-worth and self-confidence that provoked people to develop a growth mindset was by Carol Dweck . In her TED Talk titled “The Power of Believing That You Can Improve”, Dweck delves into the concept of fixed mindset versus growth mindset. By illustrating the transformative power of adopting a growth mindset, Dweck’s insights have encouraged countless individuals to embrace challenges, persist in the face of setbacks, and view effort as a path to mastery. This speech has played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of continuous learning.
A motivational speech is not a magic potion that will work instantly and develop your self-confidence. A motivational speech can only inspire you and guide you in the right direction – the change of self-confidence can be brought by you. It is something that has to be nurtured and developed over time.
Notable Motivational Speeches On Self-Confidence
History is filled with stories of self-confidence that show how a person rose through all adversities to find their place in the world. There are biographies available where you can read people’s life journeys and their struggles. But if you need some quick motivation, here’s a list of some world-famous speeches from leaders around the globe that can inspire confidence in a person and ignite belief in your abilities.
Let’s roll!
1. Earl Nightingale – “The Strangest Secret” Speech (1956)
In this classic motivational speech on self-confidence, Earl Nightingale explores the power of thought and belief in shaping our lives. He emphasises the concept that we become what we think about ourselves most of the time. Nightingale’s insights on self-confidence revolve around the idea that our attitudes and beliefs are crucial in determining our success and happiness. He offers a clear and actionable path toward building self-confidence by focusing on cultivating a positive mindset and fostering constructive belief in oneself. A beautiful excerpt of his speech has been reproduced below.
“Do you know what will happen to 100 individuals who start even at the age of 25 and who believe they will be successful? By the age of 65, only five out of 100 will make the grade! Why do so many fail? What happened to the sparkle that was there when they were 25? That is … The Strangest Secret.”
2. Martin Luther King Jr. – ‘I Have A Dream’ Speech (1963)
Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered in 1963 during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, is a powerful and iconic address. King passionately speaks about his dream for a future where people are not judged based on their skin colour but by the content of their character. He urges his followers to remember their struggle, gain self-confidence and use it as a strength in fighting for freedom and equality. He envisions a nation where equality and justice prevail and the principles of freedom and brotherhood extend to all citizens. An extract from his speech has been mentioned below.
“Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. So, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”

3. Steve Jobs – ‘Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish’ Speech (2005)
Steve Jobs’ “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” speech on self-confidence was part of his commencement address at Stanford University in 2005. Jobs shared personal anecdotes and urged graduates to follow their passion and intuition, emphasising the importance of perseverance and innovation. He shares his story about dropping out of college, learning calligraphy and how it helped him create beautiful typefaces for the first Mac. Jobs shares his early struggles of being ousted from Apple and the subsequent founding of Pixar. The phrase “Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish” encapsulates Jobs’ message, urging the audience to possess curiosity, have belief in themselves, take risks, and embrace the unknown in their journey toward personal and professional fulfilment. Let’s highlight a small but powerful extract from his 15-minute speech.
“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.”
4. Brené Brown – ‘The Power Of Vulnerability’ Speech (2010)
‘The Power of Vulnerability’ is a book and Ted Talk by Brené Brown that provides a powerful framework for building self-confidence. In this speech on self-confidence building, she delves into the dynamics of vulnerability, emphasising that embracing imperfections and acknowledging our vulnerabilities is the path to genuine connection and self-confidence. Brown discusses the impact of shame, the importance of empathy, and the courage required to embrace our authentic selves. Her talk challenges societal expectations and encourages an individual to find strength in vulnerability, fostering a deep sense of confidence and connection with others. Let’s take a sneak peek at an extract from her 20-minute speech.
“They fully embraced vulnerability. They believed that what made them vulnerable made them beautiful. They didn’t talk about vulnerability being comfortable, nor did they really talk about it being excruciating – as I had heard it earlier in the shame interviewing. They just talked about it being necessary.”
5. Dr Ivan Joseph – “The Skill Of Self-Confidence” Speech (2012)
Dr Ivan Joseph is a well-known sports psychologist also recognised for his TED Talk “ The Skill of Self Confidence ”. In this talk, he emphasises that self-confidence is a skill that can be developed and honed over time. Like any skill, it requires practice, dedication, and the willingness to learn from successes and failures. The power of positive self-talk is a key aspect of developing self-confidence. Dr. Joseph encourages individuals to replace negative thoughts and self-doubt with positive affirmations and self-confidence. He urges the audience to view feedback as a means of improvement rather than a threat, fostering a continuous learning mindset. A small extract from his talk is mentioned below.
“I recruited a goalie from Colombia, South America one year. Big, tall, 6’3” man. You know, he had hands like stone. I thought he was like Flipper. Every time I threw him the ball down, onto the ground. I was like, oh my god, we’re in trouble. Simple solution: get to the wall, kick a ball against the wall and catch it. Kick the ball against the wall and catch it. His goal was 350 a day for eight months. He came back, his hands were calloused, the moisture on his hands were literally gone, he is now playing in Europe. Magic? No. Repetition, repetition, repetition.”

3 Tips For Giving An Effective Motivational Speech
A speech has three essential components: (a) Message to be conveyed, (b) Structure of the speech and (c) Verbal delivery. Here, we will be sharing with you three very important and highly effective frameworks to master each of these components, enabling us to harness the power of persuasive communication and instill confidence in ourselves we may not have realized was there.
These frameworks or tips will require your full attention, so eliminate all distractions and prepare to focus for the next 2 minutes.
It’s essential that we must delve into these insights with a clear mind and the awareness that you are investing in your own growth and development.
1. Choosing The Right Message
Using the P-A-M framework – Purpose, Audience and Message – is very important for conveying the right message to your audience.
The Purpose is the reason behind the communication. It answers the question, “What do I want to achieve through my message?” Do I want to inspire, inform, entertain or persuade the audience?
The Audience refers to the group or an individual for whom the message is intended. It answers the question, “Who am I communicating with?” Consider your audience’s interests, attitudes, expectations and knowledge to ensure that your message is relatable and relevant.
The Message is the content or information being communicated. It answers the question, “What am I trying to convey?” Clearly articulate the main idea of your speech and keep your content clear, compelling and tailored to the audience’s requirements.
2. Engaging Structure Of Speech
To ensure that the structure of your speech about self confidence is engaging and draws the attention of the crowd, use the mind-mapping technique for storytelling. This technique revolves around three concepts:
1. The subject of the story should be at the centre of the map.
2. Use branches to represent ideas and sub-ideas.
3. Use visuals such as images and colours for mental triggers
For giving a speech on self-confidence, let’s place ‘Self-confidence’ in the centre (refer to the figure above while reading). Now, add branches to this main topic to show the sub-topics you would like to explore: Self-esteem, Self-doubt and Self-worth. To make the structure clearer, divide sub-topics into narrower concepts by adding more branches and, finally, add colours and images for a visual trigger.
3. Effective Verbal Delivery
Once you have the right message and a chronological structure, delivering the message effectively is the next most important thing. If the delivery is wrong, the entire speech becomes a waste. To ensure the delivery is perfect, we follow the four Ps: power, pace, pause, and pitch.
Power refers to the strength of your voice, confidence and assertiveness in your speech. Do a thorough research of your content, speak assertively and reflect self-confidence in your speech. Pace is the speed at which you speak. Increase your speed to convey a sense of urgency, and reduce the speed to add weight and importance to your words. Pause is like the power of silence in your speech. Strategically adding pauses in your speech adds impact and allows time for the audience to reflect on the key points. Lastly, pitch refers to the rhythm of your voice, which we also call ‘voice modulation’. Raise your pitch to exert excitement and lower it to make an emotional connection with the listeners.
Self-confidence acts like a guiding light in our daily lives. It is the thread that weaves action, resilience, and success together, and motivational speeches play the role of powerful catalysts, awakening the dormant strength of self-confidence within us.
Confidence is the key to unlocking our potential. You are not born with self-confidence, and it is not God-gifted. We possess self-confidence by being humans with immense power and the capability to reason, but sometimes, a motivational speech aggravates this self-confidence.
The purpose of this article is self-confidence twofold: to show you a way of gaining self-confidence through motivational speeches and to allow you to become an effective motivational speaker and influence hundreds of others with your words. Beyond this, you have to believe in yourself and the key to success lies in embracing this powerful attribute, shaping your destiny with unwavering confidence. Keep that belief burning bright!

Today, we’re going to explore what self-confidence truly means, why it’s important, and how we can cultivate it in our lives. Let me share a quick personal story: there was a time when I struggled to speak in public. Overcoming that fear was a journey, but it taught me the value of self-confidence and its impact on personal growth.
Self-confidence is the belief in one’s own abilities and judgement. It’s not about being perfect but about trusting ourselves to handle whatever comes our way. Why is this so important?
