My Favourite Hobby
If I were to pick one favourite hobby of mine out of the many I have, I will definitely pick gardening. I developed a taste for dancing when I was very young. The way my feet moved to the rhythm of the music convinced my parents that I was a born dancer. Dancing is very uplifting as well as economical.
I have always had a love for music and dance. However, I never realized the utter joy they bring to humans. Dancing gives us a lot of exercises. It teaches us to move our body rhythmically and feel the beat of every song. This kind of physical exercise is extremely delightful and enjoyable.
Moreover, dance also taught me how to stay strong and push my limits. I have had many injuries while dancing, too many bruises and cuts but that didn’t stop me from pursuing it further. In fact, it pushes me to do my best and realize my potential more than ever.
I have enrolled in dancing classes because I wish to make my hobby my career. I feel we all should do things which we enjoy doing. Everyone is running after money and in this race, they give up their likings and preferences. I have learned from this race and decided to not take part in it. I wish to take the road less traveled by and take on challenges most people don’t dare to.
In short, my hobby of dancing makes me feel alive and well. It is the only thing I look forward the most to. Thus, I hope to achieve my dream of being a professional dancer and making way for people who wish to make careers out of their hobbies.

My Hobby Essay: 10 Lines, 150 Words and 250 Words
Writing an essay about your hobby can not only help you express your passion but also improve your writing skills. In this article, we’ll look at different ways to write about your hobby. We’ll start with a short 10-line essay, then move on to longer ones. Along the way, you’ll also learn useful methods to write clear and thoughtful essays about any topic you study at school.
1. My Hobby Essay: 10 Lines
Let’s start with a short essay about a hobby. Here’s an example about playing football:
- My favorite hobby is playing football.
- I love kicking the ball and scoring goals.
- Football helps me stay fit and healthy.
- I play football with my friends every evening.
- My position on the team is forward.
- Playing football teaches me teamwork.
- I watch professional football matches to learn new skills.
- My dream is to play for my school team.
- Football makes me happy and gives me energy.
- I hope to keep playing football for many years.
See how each line tells us something different about the hobby? You can use this format to write about your own hobby too!
2. My Hobby Essay: 150 Words
Now, let’s look at a slightly longer essay. This one is about cooking:
Cooking is my favorite hobby. I love creating delicious meals for my family and friends. Every weekend, I spend time in the kitchen trying new recipes. My mom taught me how to cook, and now I can make simple dishes like sandwiches and pasta.
Cooking is fun because it’s like a science experiment. I mix different ingredients and see what happens. Sometimes my dishes turn out great, and sometimes they don’t – but I always learn something new. I especially enjoy baking cakes and cookies for special occasions.
This hobby has taught me about different foods and flavors. I’ve learned to be patient and careful while cooking. It also makes me feel proud when people enjoy what I’ve made. In the future, I want to learn more complicated recipes and maybe even become a chef!
3. My Hobby Essay: 250 Words
For our longest essay, let’s talk about gardening:
Gardening is a wonderful hobby that I discovered last year. It all started when my grandpa gave me some tomato seeds. I planted them in our backyard, and to my surprise, they grew into big, juicy tomatoes! Since then, I’ve been hooked on gardening.
Every day after school, I spend some time in our small garden. I’ve planted different vegetables like carrots, beans, and spinach. I also have a flower bed with colorful marigolds and sunflowers. Taking care of plants is a big responsibility, but it’s also lots of fun.
Gardening has taught me many things. I’ve learned about different types of soil and how plants grow. I now understand the importance of sunlight and water for plants. It’s amazing to see how a tiny seed can turn into a big plant that gives us food or beautiful flowers.
This hobby has also made me more patient. Plants don’t grow overnight, and I’ve learned to wait and watch them grow day by day. It’s exciting to see the first sprouts come up from the soil, or to pick the first ripe vegetable I’ve grown myself.
Gardening is good for the environment too. My plants help make the air cleaner and provide food for bees and butterflies. Plus, eating vegetables from my own garden is healthier and tastier than buying them from the store.
I love sharing the fruits and vegetables I grow with my family and friends. It makes me feel proud and happy. In the future, I want to learn about more plants and maybe even have a bigger garden. Gardening is a hobby that keeps growing, just like the plants I care for!
4. Learn Essay Writing
Now that we’ve seen some examples, let’s learn how to write good essays about any topic.
4.1 Understanding the Structure
- My Favorite Teacher
- My Favorite Animal
- My Aim In Life
- Women Empowerment
- A Festival I Celebrate – (eg: Diwali , Independence day , etc.)
- Brainstorm the Ideas: After choosing a topic, take some time to think about what you want to say. You can write down the points or ideas that come to mind. This helps you organize the essay.
4.2 Writing the Essay
A well-structured essay is essential for effective communication. It provides a clear framework for your ideas, making your writing easier to understand and follow. A typical essay consists of three main parts: the introduction, the body paragraphs, and the conclusion.
A strong opening is essential for setting the tone of your essay. Begin with a simple but effective introductory sentence that introduces the topic, such as, “My favorite hobby is playing cricket.” This type of opening grabs the reader’s attention and clearly establishes what the essay will cover. A compelling introduction is an opportunity to engage readers from the very start and make them curious to read more.
Once you’ve written the introduction, transition into the body of the essay. The body should consist of clear, concise sentences, each focused on a single idea. This structure helps maintain clarity and logical flow, making the essay easy to read and understand. Including personal experiences or feelings related to the topic can further engage readers and make the content more relatable. For instance, “I play cricket with my friends every evening. Playing cricket teaches us teamwork.” This approach adds depth to your writing and invites readers to connect with your perspective.
The conclusion is the final opportunity to leave a lasting impression on your reader. It should summarize the main points discussed in the body paragraphs and restate your thesis statement in a new way. Additionally, you can offer a final thought or insight that leaves the reader with something to ponder. Avoid introducing new information in the conclusion.
Pro tip: Using transition words throughout the essay helps guide readers smoothly from one idea to the next. Words like “first,” “next,” “then,” “in addition,” “for example,” “however,” and “finally” are valuable tools that reinforce the essay’s structure and make it easier for readers to follow along. Thoughtful transitions create a cohesive reading experience and lend a professional quality to your writing.
4.3 Example: Writing an Essay on topic: ‘My Hobby’
Here’s an example of a well-written paragraph essay about a hobby:
My favorite hobby is collecting rocks. I started this hobby during a family trip to the beach, where I found some pretty pebbles. Now, I have a collection of rocks of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Every time I go to a new place, I look for interesting rocks to add to my collection. Over time, I’ve learned about different types of rocks like granite, quartz, and marble. This hobby has taught me to observe nature closely and appreciate the beauty of small things. I love arranging my rocks and showing them to my friends. Collecting rocks is a fun way to remember the places I’ve visited and learn about the world around me.
Notice how this paragraph:
- Starts with a clear statement about the hobby.
- Explains how the hobby started.
- Describes what the hobby involves.
- Mentions what has been learned from the hobby.
- Ends with why the hobby is enjoyable and meaningful.
Over time, you can develop strong essay writing skills if you follow this structure and practice.
4.4 Writing Exercise: Hobby Description
Time: 15 minutes
- This hobby is important to me because…
- I first started when…
- The most challenging aspect is…
- I’ve learned that…
- In the future, I hope to…
- Step 2: Turn your answers into connected paragraphs

Writing essays about topics such as ‘my hobby’, ‘my aim in life,’ and ‘my school’ is a rewarding way to share your interests while improving your writing skills. The introduction, body paragraphs, and smooth transitions of an essay should be clear and concise. As you practice these techniques, you’ll improve not only your essay structure, but also your ability to express your ideas clearly. Over time, these skills will make any topic easier to tackle, helping you write with confidence in school and beyond. Whether you’re writing 10 lines or 250 words, your essay will be great if it comes from your heart. Happy writing!
